USM hosts children's book festival

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The University of Southern Mississippi celebrated children's literature Wednesday with their annual book festival.

450 librarians, teachers, authors, and illustrators from across the country are registered for the three-day event. They will browse through children's literature as well as attend lectures, workshops, and book signings.

"This is something that those of us involved in children's literature wait for all year long," said Ellen Ruffin, curator of the de Grummond Children's Literature Collection.

Prominent authors and illustrators will also be in attendance and available to speak with festival attendees.

World-renowned illustrator Paul O. Zelinsky will receive the University of Southern Mississippi Medallion for his work.

The public is invited to attend book signings at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore on campus. A story telling event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the ballroom of the Thad Cochran Center.
