MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The investigation involving a suspect who took his life after allegedly killing two and wounding another this weekend in Marion County is still ongoing.
According to Marion County Sheriff Berkley Hall, the suspect authorities were searching for, Danny Paul Smith, 51, died at a residence on New Hope Church Road from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities named Danny Smith as the suspect in the shooting death of Diane Pierce-Smith, 52, and Mark Hatfield, 62, at 899 New Hope Kokomo Road in the New Hope community Saturday night. One other female was wounded during the shooting, and transported to Forrest General Hospital, but her injuries were not life threatening.
The pair was found dead outside the home, one in the front yard, and the other around back of the house.
According to Marion County Coroner Norma Williamson, the two victims have been sent to the State Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy.
Authorities were searching for Danny Smith in the area, and at possible locations that he had connections too. Danny was discovered around 1 p.m. Sunday, and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and their Crime Scene Unit was called to the scene to help process the scene.
Marion County Sheriff's Department Investigator Jamie Singley added that the investigation is still ongoing; however the department does not believe that anyone else is involved.
