The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art will present artTalk on Thursday, April 16 at noon featuring Rick Cleveland.
Cleveland is an author and the executive director of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. He will be discussing the latest of his three books. "Mississippi's Greatest Athletes."
A native of Hattiesburg, Cleveland is the most decorated sports journalist in Mississippi history. He has more than 40 years of experience as a sports editor and columnist. He has won many state, regional, and national awards for his writing and reporting. In 2011 he became the first sports writer ever to be honored with the prestigious Richard Wright Lifetime Achievement Award for Literary Excellence. Previous winners include such authors as Eudora Welty, Richard Ford, and Willie Morris. He has also received the Distinguished Mississippian Award from the Mississippi Press Association's Education Foundation in 2000.
He still writes on the Hall of Fame's website www.msfame.com. His weekly column is syndicated through the Mississippi Press Association and appears in 28 Mississippi newspapers.
