HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - April 2, 2015 is World Autism Awareness Day. According to NIH, Autism is "a range of complex neurodevelopment disorders, characterized by social impairments, communication difficulties and restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior."
According to Autism Speaks, Autism "affects over three million individuals in the United States and tens of millions worldwide."
Symptoms of Autism can include, loss of language or social skills, poor eye contact, no babbling or pointing by age one, no smiling or social responsiveness, and excessive lining up of toys or objects, according to the National Institutes of Health.
While there are treatments for Autism, there is no cure for the disease at this time.
For World Autism Awareness Day, Autism Speaks is encouraging people to "Light It Up Blue" by wearing blue.
