Laurel football team receives championship rings

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The ring was the thing in Laurel this afternoon as the Golden Tornadoes football team received their championship rings for the 2014 5A state title.

"It's just something that the kids work hard for. You talk about getting the ring and all the hard work they put into it," head coach Todd Breland said.

Laurel beat Oxford 29-26 in Starkville at Davis Wade Stadium this past December for the school's first championship since 2007.

The ceremony was held in the auditorium in front of family and friends where everyone got a glimpse of the new hardware.

"After we won the game the community got together and made sure this was taken care of and we're very thankful for those. This is a day that kids play athletics for is to get that ring," Breland added.

The style for this year's ring was based off the 2007 design.
