Hattiesburg man indicted in 2014 drive-by shooting

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg man has been indicted in connection to a 2014 drive-by shooting in the City of Hattiesburg.

Corey Chatman, 22, has been indicted by a Forrest County grand jury for drive-by shooting, criminal street gang activity and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to the indictment, on July 20, 2014, Chatman did purposely, knowingly or recklessly discharge a firearm while in a motor vehicle and thereby did attempt to cause bodily injury to a person. The document also detailed the participation in gang activity, to wit: 74 Hoover, to commit the crime of drive-by shooting. Chatman was also indicted on the possession by a convicted felon count for possessing a .25 caliber handgun.

The indictment lists Chatman as a habitual criminal with multiple other convictions for crimes carrying felony weight. Chatman was convicted of grand larceny and residential burglary in January 2013.
