COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) -

This is a news release from the Columbia School District.

Dr. Marietta W. James, Superintendent of the Columbia School District, along with Athletic Director Bruce Ratcliff, has announced approval of James Harvey as Head Football Coach of the Columbia High School Wildcats. Coach Harvey will follow Coach Walter Denton, who is retiring.

Coach Harvey is currently a social studies teacher at Jefferson Middle School and the Columbia High School offensive coordinator/offensive line coach. He has worked in the Columbia School District for seven (7) years and is the 2015 Columbia School District Teacher of the Year.

Mr. Harvey, a native of Columbia, Mississippi, is a graduate of Columbia High School and Jackson State University. He played football for the 1982 CHS State Championship team, the Jackson State Tigers, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dr. James said, “We had four finalists for the position of Head Football Coach, but Coach Harvey emerged as the one to lead our football program.” Coach Harvey says he is excited to be selected and is eager to assume his new responsibilities as Columbia High School Head Football Coach on April 1, 2015.

    Hattiesburg police are searching for a man wanted in a forgery-uttering case. HPD spokesman Ryan Moore said the man wrote a fraudulent check for a drink machine at a business in the 600 block of Campbell Loop Drive in Hattiesburg.
