Free fire prevention seminar to be held in Jones County

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The Jones County Volunteer Department Council and the Mississippi Forestry Commission is offering a free fire safety seminar on April 11 at the Ronald E. Whitehead Advanced Technology Center in Jones County.

The event will start at 9:00 a.m. with registration, with the program starting at 9:30 a.m. It will run through around 1:00 p.m., and a free lunch will be provided. 

Community members, businesses and community leaders are invited to attend.

The event is called, FIREWISE: How to Have a Firewise Home. It is put on around the state by the Mississippi Forestry Commission to educate the public on potential existing fire hazards and tips for preventing accidental fires.

Attendees are encouraged to pre-register for the seminar and can find out more information by calling the Jones County Fire Coordinator's office at 601-428-3187.

    The Lumberton Board of Aldermen voted to end the suspension of the police chief and fire the city clerk during a special-called meeting Thursday night.  On Monday, WDAM reported that the Lumberton Police Department said Chief Shane Flynt had submitted his resignation and that Phillip Ducksworth was serving as the interim police chief.
