LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

April 5 – 11 is now declared as Junior Auxiliary Week in the City of Laurel.

Mayor Johnny Magee signed the proclamation Tuesday at city hall for the Junior Auxiliary of Laurel. Mayor Magee encourages all citizens to join in the salute to Junior Auxiliary volunteers who have been an important presence in the community since 1932.

The Junior Auxiliary will celebrate the week by hosting a community food drive April 8. JA of Laurel will be in the parking lot of City Home Center on Highway 15 North from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. All donations will support the JA of Laurel's Secret Meal service project which feeds children in Laurel and Jones County schools that counselors believe are not getting any nutrition over the weekend.

All food donations must be individually wrapped and should not require refrigeration or preparation.
