$50K goal set for 5th annual Wounded Minutemen Golf Tourney

PURVIS, MS (WDAM) - Organizers of an annual golf tournament which raises money for wounded Mississippi National Guard soldiers and airmen hope this year's event will bring in $50,000.

The 5th Wounded Minutemen of Mississippi 4-Man Scramble is set for Monday, Apr. 13 at Pine Creek Golf Club in Purvis.

More than 200 players will participate.

Organizers hope to present checks to about 10 wounded veterans during the tournament.

They also say several dignitaries are scheduled to attend, including Gov. Phil Bryant.

"These guys have gone out there and given for this country and we need to give back to them," said Johnny Sellers, a retired major general with the Mississippi National Guard and co-chair of the tournament. "They can use the money for anything they want to use it for. They can use it for medical expenses, house notes, car notes, anything," he said.

"We get a lot of business right there from Camp Shelby and it's just a little bit of what we can do for the great sacrifices (the wounded veterans) make, going overseas and letting us be able to do this every day," said Chad Vivien, general manager of Pine Creek Golf Club.

If you'd like to play, some tee times are still available. You can find out more by going online to www.woundedminutemen.com.
