-- Southern Miss senior right-hander James McMahon
picked up the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week accolade on Monday in an announcement made by the league office in Irving, Texas.
The Hattiesburg, Miss., native threw 11 shutout innings against a pair of nationally ranked opponents last week.
In his two starts during the week, McMahon registered a 5-1 win against No. 14 Rice, but did not get a decision in a short midweek start against No. 29 Mississippi State due to being on a pitch count. McMahon did not allow a run over his 11 innings and fanned five, while walking just one. He improved to 5-0 on the year and saw his earned run average drop to 0.99 following his Rice outing.
Against Mississippi State, he pitched to one batter over the minimum in his start over 3 2/3 innings and pitched to the minimum amount of hitters through the first four frames against Rice. He retired nine Owl batters in a row at one point against the Owls. He was part of a 3-0 shutout victory over MSU, which was the team's fourth shutout of the year. McMahon has pitched in three of those contest.
This is the second C-USA Pitcher of the Week honor for McMahon this season and the third for the Golden Eagles.
The C-USA Hitter of the Week honor went to Middle Tennessee junior OF Ronnie Jebavy, who had four multiple-hit games and helped the Blue Raiders to a conference series sweep over Old Dominion.
