Laurel man arrested for selling cocaine

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The Laurel Police Department Narcotics Task Force issued a search warrant at 1700 block of North Joe Wheeler Avenue after investigating the residence and the occupant, 44-year old Charles Brown.

The investigations stems from Brown's alleged illegal narcotics distribution he was conducting out of his home. Upon entry, agents came into contact with Brown, who was the only individual inside the residence.

During the search of the home, officers recovered about 40 grams of cocaine, a .380 caliber handgun and about $1,000 in cash. There also found a set of electronic scales used to weigh narcotics. The estimated street value of the drugs is around $4,000.

Brown is charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

He went before Laurel Municipal Court where Judge Kyle Robertson set his bond at $30,000. This arrest stems from about a 3-week investigation by the Laurel Police Department's Narcotics Task Force.
