HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi State Science & Engineering Fair, was held today on USM campus in the Thad Cochran building. 550 students in 7th – 12th grade from across the state battled for top prizes in the competition.
9th-12th grade students competed to be one of two MS State Representatives to the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair.
"The science and engineering fair internationally covers 112 countries, millions of dollars in prizes are awarded each year," said Dr. Sherry Herron, associate professor of the department of Biological Sciences. "It's an incredible opportunity for high school students. We've had people who had full rides to college because of science and engineering fair."
Winners were announced shortly after judging. Allen Huang from Oak Grove High School and Andrew Neely from St. Andrews in Madison took top spots in the competition. They will be accompanied by 14 other Mississippi Regional ISEF winners to compete in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the week of May 10th.
