LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Authorities are continuing the investigation of a body discovered Sunday afternoon in a wooded area of Lamar County.
The body was discovered around 3:30 p.m. near the 2500 block of Rocky Branch Road. According to Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel a missing person that was recently reported could be the body that was discovered near the creek bank off Rocky Branch Road.
According to Rigel, a missing persons report was filed on March 21st, for a white male named David T. Havard, 66. He was last seen in the Rocky Branch area at a relatives house, on Feb. 19th, however it was not reported until Saturday.
After family members of Havard reported him missing, they went out in search of him, and a family member actually found the body near the creek bank.
"We have reason to believe the body discovered is the missing person, but due to the advanced stage of decomposition, we are waiting on DNA results," said Rigel.
"There was no weapons found around the body, or the scene, and from what we could tell, there is no apparent or visible trauma to the person, and no foul play is suspected" said Rigel.
Rigel added the body has been sent to the State Crime Lab for positive identification, as well as the cause and manor of death.
