5 charged in Hattiesburg burglary, kidnapping incident

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Sunday incident in the City of Hattiesburg ended with five men behind bars.

According to the Hattiesburg Police Department “24 hour report” the incident occurred in the 1700 block of Fuller Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Darrell Whitsett, 33, Omar Donaldson, 27, and John Scarbrough, 23, were arrested and charged with residential burglary, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Colby Jones, 19, was charged with burglary, kidnapping, and possession of marijuana. Lance Waldrop, 28, was also arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

The suspects made their initial appearance Monday afternoon in court where they each had a bond set.

Darrell Whitsett- $270,000

John Scarbrough- $270,000

Omar Donaldson- $270,000

Colby Jones- $250,000

Lance Waldrop- $50,000

More information was requested through the Hattiesburg Police Department on the arrest of the 5 individuals; however Hattiesburg Police PIO Lt. Jon Traxler stated a formal records request had to be submitted through city hall before anything could be released on the matter.

WDAM made the formal records request for this matter Monday March 23rd, and has yet to receive any additional information.

    Around 8 p.m., emergency crews responded to a reignited house fire on Hwy. 11 in Lamar County. Fire investigator, George Stephens, says the initial fire happened before 3 a.m. on July 21.  When crews arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames. No one was at home at the time of the fire. Stephens says the family was thankful to be away when the fire sparked.
