MGCCC students hosting race to help family

WIGGINS, MS (WDAM) - A student organization at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is recruiting residents to help raise money for a local family.

The Reflections Team chooses a community project every year to recruit students and help the community. This year, the organization is hosting a 5k walk and run to raise money for a 4-year-old boy.

"Gabrielle and Jonathan Walters son, Brooks, was born with what doctors thought was Dandy Walker syndrome," said Ana-Claire Graham, Reflections Team president. "Now, after a visit to a neurologist in Boston, they believe Brooks has Walker Warburg Syndrome, a severe form of Muscular dystrophy."

The event will be held on April 18 at the Perkinston campus of MGCCC. It costs $20 to enter the race, and all participants will receive a free shirt.

The deadline to enter is April 10, and only cash is accepted.
