Southern Miss to Hold 36-Hour Gold Rush Event this Week

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The following is a news release from The University of Southern Mississippi


The University of Southern Mississippi Foundation kicks off the 2015 Southern Miss Gold Rush this week with a 36-hour crowd-funding initiative aimed to raise support for all areas of the University. The event will be held from Noon, Tuesday, March 24 to midnight on Wednesday, March 25.

The Southern Miss Gold Rush is an opportunity to show the magnitude a large number of gifts can make on the University. The 36-hour campaign will bring high energy and excitement to supporting Southern Miss making each gift more immediate, direct and personal. By flooding social media channels with posts about the Southern Miss Gold Rush, using #USMgoldrush, every gift will raise awareness and encourage others to join in support of Southern Miss.

“This is an exciting campaign. We hope everyone will take part in the Gold Rush, students, parents, alumni and friends,” said USM Foundation Executive Director Shannon Fleming. “It doesn't matter how much you give – it just matters that you give. There are so many ways to support Southern Miss, it all adds up to make a difference.”

Gifts of any size are welcomed and greatly appreciated and can be made online atwww.southernmissgoldrush.com, via telephone at 601.266.5210 during regular office hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, or by visiting the USM Foundation office, located on the third floor of the Trent Lott Center at the Southern Miss Hattiesburg campus, during regular office hours.

Donors can choose the area that means the most to them from the many giving opportunities through the USM Foundation. From supporting the University's greatest needs with a gift to the Southern Miss Fund or investing in scholarships, programs or campus construction, 100 percent of every gift to the campaign will support its intended purpose.
