LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - On Thursday, the Lamar County Board of Supervisors voted and approved three dirt mining petitions.

The petitions are to mine dirt located at 473 Burnt Bridge Road in District 3 of Lamar County. Hover Gravel Inc. affiliates petitioned to make changes in the comprehensive plan, zoning and conditional use. The board voted and approved, 4-1, Supervisor Phillip Carlisle opposed.

Lamar County Administrator Chuck Bennett says the affiliates of Hover Gravel Inc. will implement a beautification project to the property.

"The Lamar County Planning Commission set forth some variations and additions that had to be met prior to move forward," said Bennett. "They had to do with the beautification of the area including shrubs and other stuff. This is to attempt to resolve noise and other issues such as beautification."

Other beautification aspects will be discussed at a later date.
