Joe's Viewpoint: Rise and Shine 5k

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg Clinic will host the 4th Annual Rise and Shine Half-Marathon and 5K set for Saturday April 4th. One-hundred percent of the registration fees go to benefit the Rise & Shine program at ARC. Last year the clinic raised seventeen thousand dollars and this year they are on target to exceed that amount. I had the pleasure of meeting some great people with the Rise & Shine program this morning. The group makes pottery which they sell to help support ARC. ARC is not publicly funded and relies solely on private donations and the enrollment fees from participants. Sadly many families cannot afford even the modest fees for the program, so it is important that they get help from partners like Hattiesburg Clinic. Friday is the last day to get a guaranteed t-shirt but you can register online until the day of the race. For more information go to hattiesburgclinic.com/halfmarathon.

The extra time paid off as the freshman linebacker has proved to be a major key for the Southern Miss defense this season. “Racheem's special,” said USM senior defensive back Jomez Applewhite. “He started coming into his own last year during his redshirt year.
