HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The City of Hattiesburg, the University of Southern Mississippi School of Social Work and many Hub City young people have teamed up to develop a new initiative to transform the way the community supports youth and families.

It's called, Hub City Access - Hattiesburg Area Youth Master Plan and the goal is to enhance the mental and physical development of local young people.

The plan has five areas of emphasis: (1) early childhood development, (2) family support and outreach, (3) health, safety and recreation, (4) out-of-school time and (5) youth development and transitions.

"The university and the city will come together every year to update the progress that we've had, update even the goals that we had and to see if we achieve this goal, can we pass this goal onto someone else to continue it going and evolving," said Johnny Dupree, mayor of Hattiesburg.

A new interactive website to help facilitate the goals of the plan will officially launch next week.
