HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Folks who are Irish or Italian, or who just like to have a good time, gathered in the Hub City this weekend to celebrate the culture of Italy and the Emerald Isle. The annual Irish-Italian Festival Parade made its way down W. 4th Street Saturday morning.
It was led by a royal court, featuring Southern Miss president Dr. Rodney Bennett as king and Hattiesburg resident Carolyn Petro as queen. Forrest-Perry County District Attorney Patricia Burchell served as grand marshal.
Camp Shelby's Youth Challenge cadets took part and even the Scottish were represented by the Presbyterian Christian School Pipe Band.
The parade had about 50 entries and there were plenty of participants throwing beads to the onlookers.
The festival itself was held at St. Thomas Catholic Church and included food, live music and lots of games for children.
