Joe's Viewpoint: Disaster Relief update

Joe Sciortino Joe Sciortino
COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) -

This is a viewpoint from General Manager Joe Sciortino

Back on January 8 of this year WDAM partnered with the Greater Pinebelt Community Foundation to raise funds to help those affected by the tornadoes that struck our area two days before Christmas. Well it has been just over two months since our telethon and I wanted to update you on the good your contributions have done so far. I spoke with Renee Duncan today who heads up the Unmet Needs Committee with the Columbia Strong fund. Presently the fund's donations total 320 thousand dollars. Add those donations to other partner donations and the Columbia Strong team has collected 650 thousand towards a 950 thousand dollar goal. The money is going toward helping people rebuild their homes. Six homes are fully funded as rebuilds from the ground up with four homes pending. They have fully funded nine major home repairs with two currently pending. These families would have no other way to rebuild without the dollars and volunteer hours donated by the great people of the Pinebelt. Thank you and if you are interested in helping please contact the Greater Pinebelt Community Foundation.

This is today's Viewpoint.
