LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

A Laurel father who lost his son in a car accident in January 2010 knows about pain.

"Losing my son was the worst pain in the world. Nothing compares to it," said Bill Myers.

Myers, with 12 years experience in ministry, has always had a calling to help others who are hurting.

"I began in 2009 and got on Facebook, and I felt like I could make a difference," said Myers. "In June, I started posting scriptures and devotionals each morning to my profile to help people."

Those devotionals, and the loss of his son, inspired Myers to write his new book "Surviving the Storms of Life."

"My book isn't just about the loss of a child, it's anything that could cause a person pain or steal our joy," said Myers. "We all experience it. I related it to storms, and being on a ship. Surviving the storms of life is about how to deal with our pain, and use those experiences to heal."

After the death of his son, Myers said three couples from his church who lost children reached out to his family to encourage them that they would survive.

Once Myers and his family reached a certain point of healing, others began to reach out to him for help.

“To use my pain to help other people, it is so encouraging. Something good has come from terrible experiences,” said Myers.

Now, after surviving his own personal storm, Myers hopes to use his experiences to help others survive theirs.

"There is hope. You might not see it right now because it's dark and cloudy, but there is hope," said Myers. "If you just take baby steps, you will survive."

Myers will be preaching at Life Church on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m., and also will discuss his book. After the service, he will be signing copies of his book, which will also be available for purchase.

Copies of the book are also available online here.

The book can also be purchased at Life Church, or local bookstores.
