FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Investigators with the Forrest County Sheriff's department are urging people to be aware of an ongoing scam that is targeting Forrest County residents.
According to investigators, Forrest County residents are receiving phone calls and being told they have an outstanding warrant for not showing up for jury duty, and requesting money for payment. According to sheriff's department investigator Nick Calico, the callers are claiming they are with the warrant division of the sheriff's department.
However sheriff's department officials said this is a scam, and the department does not solicit payments of any kind or fines over the phone, nor would anyone from the warrants division contact individuals and solicit money.
Officials stated to be aware if this happens to you; do not give any personal information, or money, especially when asked to via a money card, credit card, or green-dot cards.
