Rainy spring break ideas for kids

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Don't allow the rainy forecast to put a damper on spring break! There are plenty of fun activities to keep the kids occupied indoors.

For bookworms, stocking up on library books and reading together is a great way to pass a rainy afternoon. The Hattiesburg library hosts Story Time at 10:00 on Wednesday mornings and the library in Petal has theirs at 10:00 Thursday.

"This week we've seen families taking their time to brose for books instead of rushing in and out after school," said Chris Thornhill, children's librarian. "They lounge around and read. Parents read to their young children and it's very rewarding to see."

A quick trip to the grocery store opens the door to many more possibilities. Homemade play dough or ice cream are some ways to get creative in the kitchen. Making them is fun and the end results are even better!

Camping outdoors might be out of the question, but who says you can't set up a tent in the living room and have a picnic? And of course, don't forget to make s'mores on the stove. After the kids' tummies are filled, a movie marathon will be perfect. Just be sure to leave room for popcorn!

There's always the traditional options such as hide-and-seek, board games, and puzzles. Fashion shows, karaoke, and sock puppets are options as well!

Be sure to take plenty of photos of the indoor fun! You can always use them to make a photo collage in case you exhaust all these other ideas before the weekend!
