HATTIESBURG, Miss. – For the second week in a row, a Southern Miss baseball hurler has been named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week in an announcement by the league office in Irving, Texas.
Golden Eagle junior right-hander, Cord Cockrell of Duson, La., collects the honor after registering a seven-inning victory last Wednesday night in a 5-1 triumph at home over the No. 22 ranked Ole Miss Rebels. In his first start for the Golden Eagles, Cockrell did not surrender a run to the Rebels until the seventh inning, not letting a base runner get past second base until the seventh frame. He retired eight of nine batters at one point during the contest. Cockrell, who transferred from UL Lafayette, sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.
