Hattiesburg, Miss.- William Carey University came up with the clutch hits in game one however the bats were silenced in game two as they split their SSAC doubleheader with Bethel University.

In game one Cody Christian (JR/Satsuma, Ala.) capped off a WCU comeback with a RBI walk-off single as the Crusaders defeated Bethel, 3-2.

The Wildcats struck first in the top of the first inning as Michael Brasili recorded a two out single to score Wes Warren and put the Bethel up 1-0. Carey answered in the bottom of the inning as Alex Buechler (SR/Omaha, Neb.) ripped an RBI single to center to score Tyler James (FR/Slidell, La.) and tie the game at 1.

Bethel moved back in front in the top of the fifth as Sam Seaton's sacrifice fly scored Warren for a second time to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. WCU tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the sixth on a Nick Lowe (JR/Satsuma, AL) RBI that scored Tyler Richardson (JR/Bluff City, Tenn.).

In the top of the seventh the Wildcats seemed poised to retake the lead as WCU error and Wildcat single put two runners on with one out however Jake Chambliss (SR/Gulfport, Miss.) came on in relief and got Brasili to ground into an inning ending double play.

In bottom of the seventh WCU went right to work as Jordan Anderson (JR/Olive Branch, Miss.) and James each singled to start the inning. After a wild pitch moved both runners up a base, Christian delivered with a single left for the game winner.

In game two Blake Chandler fired a three hit shutout as the Wildcats defeated WCU 3-0.

Chandler and WCU starter Brandt Bourgeois (SR/Marrero, LA) were both stellar on the mound as the game was scoreless after five innings but Bethel finally broke the deadlock in the sixth on a Chase Howell RBI to put the Wildcats up 1-0.

The score remained the same until the ninth when Howell struck again with a two run single for the final runs of the day.

WCU and Bethel conclude their three game SSAC series tomorrow with a single game at 1:00 pm at Milton Wheeler Field.
