Customers line up to shop at the Hattiesburg Salvation Army's Family Store Saturday.
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
A Hub City variety store that features great bargains and helps serve those in need just reopened after a major makeover. A ribbon was cut to officially open the doors of the Hattiesburg Salvation Army's Family Store on Highway 49.
It was closed for a few days for renovation and now has a new look and some new items.
The store plays a big role in funding the many services that the Salvation Army provides to the community.
"The funds that are raised through the store are actually used to run the Salvation Army's ministries throughout the year," said Maj. Andy Gilliam, commanding officer for the Hattiesburg Salvation Army. "Our social services, our utility assistance, our shelter where we feed folks day in and day out, also our Boys and Girls Club program," he said.
Gilliam says half of his organization's budget comes from sales from the family store.
