The City of Hattiesburg received several new garbage trucks recently.
The new fleet included 10 new side loaders and two new rear loader garbage trucks.
“The lease was up on the old ones and then we wanted to go with something newer [and] better because the last garbage trucks we had stayed broken down a lot,” said Allen McKinley of Hattiesburg Public Works. “We had a lot of complaints about their garbage not being picked up, so these new trucks here that we have now, we went to a Freightliner Chastity, with a different body, different chastity. Hopefully, over time the trucks here will pay out in the long run.”
The weight body on the newer trucks is bigger, which cuts down on fuel costs, according to McKinley.
Each unit cost between $200,000 to $225,000.
