Guest Viewpoint: The story of Julia Cobb

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - This is a Guest Viewpoint

My name is Curtis Reed. I've lived in Petal for thirty years and I would like you all to meet 7 year old Julia Cobb. I met Julia while we were both patients at M D Anderson cancer center. She saw me one day and came over to pray for me.

Julia was fighting Ewing sarcoma and we became friends over the next few months. Sadly Julia lost her battle in October 2013 and went home to be with Jesus but she lives on in the hearts of the many lives she touched.

This is Julia's family Jonathan, Jennifer, little Jonathan, Jenna and Jaxi. They have taken on the monumental task of walking from Disneyland, in Anaheim California, to Disney world, in Orlando Florida, to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research. Less than five percent of all cancer research funds go to pediatric cancer research.

The Cobbs will be in Petal on March 14th. We will join them at Petal's relay park behind the library at 3:00 pm. We would like to have a team to walk with them and hopefully raise some money for this great cause.

You can walk for a hundred yards or as many miles as you like. If you are interested in walking or making a donation please contact Curtis Reed at 601-543-3810 or

They will also be speaking at Macedonia Baptist church at 6:00pm on Sunday March 15th, followed by a benefit baked potato supper. Everyone is invited. Thank you and God bless you.
