HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from William Carey University.

The William Carey University School of Education has seen an enrollment increase in each trimester of the 2014-2015 academic year, school officials recently announced.

Dr. Ben Burnett, dean of the School of Education, said the spring trimester saw the largest enrollment increase with a jump of eight percent.

“Much of the growth is due to new online programs,” said Dr. Burnett.

The School of Education has recently upgraded existing programs or added new programs in online formats, including the specialist's degree in instructional leadership. This program is intended for students interested in careers in public, parochial or private school leadership. Two tracks, instructional leadership or instructional assessment, are offered in the program.

In addition to the specialist's degree, the School of Education also recently added a new doctorate in educational leadership K-12. The degree, which is pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, will be offered primarily in an online format.

Other programs, such as a bachelor's degree in physical education and master's degrees in education with multiple specialty areas, are also offered online or in hybrid formats.
