USM police investigate alleged on-campus assault

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The following is an Eagle Alert from the University of Southern Mississippi

University Police are seeking assistance with information related to an incident reported to have occurred near the Theatre and Dance Building on the Hattiesburg Campus Wednesday evening.

On Thursday afternoon, a female student contacted University Police indicating that she was the victim of an attempted simple assault, occurring around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. According to the report, the male suspect wearing blue jeans and a blue or black hooded sweatshirt, fled when a passerby, believed to be a student, yelled and approached the scene.
