Laurel police promote healthy lifestyle for children

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The Laurel police department hosted a "Healthy Heroes Initiative" at Mason Elementary School Friday.

Members of their healthy heroes team were on hand to speak with elementary students on the importance of exercising and how proper nutrition combined with proper exercise can promote a healthy lifestyle.

Chief Tyrone Stewart said it's important for kids to make changes at an early age.

"It's your responsibility and our responsibility that we give these children the best advantage to make it in life," Stewart said. 

Each month one fo the Healthy Heroes' Team members will visit and elementary school within our community to promote the new campaign.

The program is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shied.
