HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The 79th annual Mississippi Academy of Sciences meeting at The University of Southern Mississippi had nearly 700 educators, researchers and students in attendance Thursday.
The meeting provided a broad forum for members to exchange ideas and information, encompassing everything from agriculture to zoology.
"One person only has so many ideas but when you are able to hear the ideas of other people that expands your research and your knowledge as well, so you are going to be able to do better research and find cures for different diseases that you wouldn't be able to find those cures by yourself," said Jamie Allen of Mississippi INBRE.
The event was formed by professors attempting to involved students in meetings and acquire comfortably in professional settings, while allowing each sciences division to come together and encourage collaboration.
Olga McDaniel, PhD professor of Surgery at University of Mississippi Medical Center was the recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Contributions Award at the event.
