HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The University of Southern Mississippi presents Mary Poppins.
All five showings of Mary Poppins have been sold out for about a week, but that's no surprise to Director Mike Lopinto.
Seven on Your Side was invited to media night on Monday to catch a sneak peak on the show.
“It was technically a dress rehearsal for the audience, but as dress rehearsals go I couldn't have been happier,” said Lopinto.
Assistant Director and Production manager Tammy Mansfield said it has taken a year to get everything in order for the show.
“It was just like dream last night when we finally went to bed after seeing in front of an audience after all the months of work,” said Mansfield. “I could not be happier and more proud of this cast and crew.”Choreographer Kevin Breazeale said the cast is nothing, but talented.
“Musical rehearsal started in October,” said Breazeale. “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious took a few weeks to do because it is such a ginormous number.”
All agree that ticket holders are lucky to see such a show here in the Pine Belt.
“The biggest reaction that I got out of people is that they couldn't believe that this was a Hattiesburg production,” said Mansfield.
The performances mark the grand re-opening of university's Mannoni Performing Arts Center, which was damaged during the Feb. 2013 tornado. Opening night is Thursday, February 26. The show will begin at 7:00 p.m.
