Jones County burglary suspect arrested

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - This is a press release by The Jones County Sheriff's Department: 

Christopher JoeDennis, 34 of Laurel,  was being soughtby Jones County Sheriff'sDeputies in relation to burglary and possession of a weapon by a convictedfelon charges.  On the evening ofSaturday, February 21, 2015, the Jones County Sheriff's Department received information thatDennis was expected to be in Jones County at a local restaurant.  Several unmarked Department vehicles were setup at the eatery and it was soon realized Dennis had arrived in a silverCobalt.  Deputies tried a felony takedownmaneuver, but Dennis escaped the parking lot after striking a deputy with themirror and bumper of the vehicle.  Thedeputy sustained no life threatening injuries.

A chase ensued intoForrest County where Dennis wrecked and fled on foot.  He managed to get away from law enforcementin a wooded area in the early hours of Sunday morning.

On Sunday evening,February 22, 2015, the Jones County Sheriff's Department received information thatDennis was possibly at a hotel in Hattiesburg. With the help of the U.S. Marshal, Hattiesburg Police Department andForrest County Sheriff'sDepartment, a red Volkswagen that was on record to have belonged to Dennis wasspotted at the hotel.  When the vehicle,which occupied three people, exited the parking lot and stopped at a nearby gasstation, the driver got out of the vehicle and was positively identified asDennis. 

Dennis was arrestedon the spot by the Jones County Sheriff'sDepartment, and the other two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custodyby the Hattiesburg Police Department for felony drug charges.

Dennis will appearat the Jones County Justice Court for his initial court appearance on Tuesday,February 24, 2015, at 1:30pm.  He will becharged with Burglary, Weapon Possession of a Felon, Aggravated Assault on aPolice Officer and Felony Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle.
