Hattiesburg, Miss.- William Carey University defeated Loyola University, 5-4 in game one but couldn't finish off the sweep as they dropped game two, 4-1 in SSAC action at Milton Wheeler Field.
In game one Michael Wells (SR/Niceville, Fla.) RBI single in the fifth inning was the difference as the Crusaders defeated the Wolf Pack, 5-4.
After surrendering a two out run in the top of the first inning, the Crusaders responded in the bottom of the frame as put together three hits to go along with a pair of Loyola errors to score three runs to open a 3-1 lead.
WCU added to their lead in the second as Tyler James (FR/Slidell, La.) scored on another Wolf Pack error to make it 4-1 Carey. In the top of the third inning Loyola tied the game as John Nicholson drove in one run with a RBI double then Luis Angiuzola smacked a two run home run to cap a three run inning by the visitors.
The score remained deadlocked until the fifth inning when Wells delivered a two out single to score Tyler Richardson (JR/Bluff City, Tenn.).
Brandt Bourgeois (SR/Marrero, LA) recorded eight strikeouts to pick up the win to improve to 2-2 on the season.
Richardson and Wells each had two hits for WCU in game one.
In game two WCU surrendered three unearned runs and had their 10 game winning streak snapped as they dropped game two, 4-1.
The Crusaders committed a pair of errors in the third inning that led to two runs and then a two out error in the fourth put WCU down 3-0. Carey got one run back in the seventh inning on a Jordan Anderson (JR/Olive Branch, Miss.) RBI double but could get no closer.
WCU returns to action on Tuesday as they host No. 10 LSU-Shreveport. First pitch is set for 4:00 pm at Milton Wheeler Field.
