JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Junior Auxiliary of Laurel held its annual Girl Talk program at Laurel Middle School on Friday where the guest speaker was Miss Mississippi, Jasmine Murray, who spoke to the girls about her platform, "13 going on 30."
The event covered a variety of break-out sessions that included such topics as, girls health and hygiene, self-esteem and safety, and also the importance of staying in school.
Murray also talked about her life growing up in Mississippi and her experiences since being crowned, Miss Mississippi.
The girls also joined together for a self-defense presentation from Ian Bergin, with the Jones County Sheriff's Department.
This project provides an educational and fun way for these girls to learn about the importance of making healthy choices for a brighter future. Entertainment was provided to the group from Jones OnStage, a song and dance group out of Jones County Junior College.
