PURVIS, MS (WDAM) -
A bid advertisement for a new Purvis field house has been posted.
The bid is to replace the Purvis High School field house that burned down last year.
Lamar County School District Architect David Landry said by law the advertisement must run in the local paper for two consecutive weeks. Landry said, the district will open the bid on March 12 and will be awarded to the lowest and best bid. He said the field house will be over eight thousand square feet and will run about one million dollars.
"It's in a new contemporary design. It's something like nothing on their campus," said Landry. "We are incorporating some recommendations from the coaches who have seen other field houses of this type of design. They really liked them, so we incorporated some of those design concepts into the appearance of the building"
Landry expects that they will break ground in April and that it will be a nine month process once construction begins.
