The William Carey University School of Music and Ministry is hosting the third annual “My First String Camp at Carey” from June 15-19 at the Hattiesburg campus.
The camp, a part of the FestivalSouth activities conducted in the Pine Belt area, offers Suzuki and elementary string classes for children from first to sixth grades in instruments including the violin, viola, cello and bass. No prior experience is necessary. Students can bring their own instruments or rent one for $10.
Small and large group classes, enrichment activities and beginner music theory courses will be offered. Faculty members involved are Blanca Berdion and Rebecca Zou, violins; Daniela Pardo, viola; and Andrea Beltran Landers, cello/bass.
The registration deadline for the camp is June 5. The cost is $150. A $75 scholarship is available for students in the Hattiesburg Public School District.
