Laurel Main Street hosts 4th annual chili cook-off

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from Magnolia State Bank.

Laurel Main Street will host the 4th Annual Magnolia State Bank Chili Cook-off from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m this Saturday, come rain or shine. Taking place on Central Avenue in Downtown Laurel, patrons will enjoy homemade chili from 28 teams fighting to bring home the hot-pepper trophy.

"The Chili Cook Off has solidified itself as one of the most anticipated events in the city," said Judi Holifield, executive director of Laurel Main Street. "It's always fun to see if past winners can keep their titles and bragging rights and how creative the teams can be each year!"

Tickets, available at the event, are $10, while kids eat free. Patrons may also choose to purchase a hand-crafted, pottery bowl for $25 made by local potter Carl Buchanan, who has created a signature piece for every Chili Cook Off since the events inception. Guests may also purchase raffle tickets, $10 for 1 or $20 for 3, to take home a 10 gallon, cast iron, Bayou Classic Jambalaya cauldron.

The winning team, announced at 2:00 p.m., will receive a grand prize of $1,000 as well as the coveted traveling chili trophy. The team placing second will go home with $500 and the third will win $250. Patrons will determine the People's Choice Award and tent with the best decorations may receive the Spirit Award.

Like all Laurel Main Street events, the Chili Cook Off welcomes guests of all ages to enjoy this fun-filled day. Residents from across the region can shake off their winter blues while enjoying great chili, music, children's activities and time with friends.

This event would not be possible without it's dedicated sponsors including Magnolia State Bank, Sanderson Farms, Mississippi Power, Central Sunbelt Federal Credit Union, Community Bank, BancorpSouth, Southern Beverage, South Central Regional Medical Center, and Gholson Burson Entrekin & Orr, PA .
