This is a news release from the Laurel Police Department
Beginning on February 9th, members of the Laurel Police Departments Canine Division participated in the United States Police Canine Association certification trials in Jackson County, Mississippi.
During the trials, the dogs and handlers were tested in several aspects of their working ability. The teams were tested in detection work for narcotics, patrol work and criminal apprehension.
The teams were judged and ranked by five nationally certified judges.
The Laurel Police Department is pleased to announce that Sgt. Rob Norman and K-9 Recon placed first in the agility portion, second overall in the narcotics portion, second in the patrol portion and won the Top Dog Award at the trials.
The Top Dog award is given for having the top combined narcotics and patrol scores during the event.
