HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Whether you have a Valentine or spending the weekend celebrating being single, adopting a pet is a good Valentine's gift for yourself or someone else.

Pet Smart's "Be My Valentine" National Pet Adoption Weekend is this Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., and several Pine Belt adoption centers are participating at the Hattiesburg Pet Smart.

Southern Pines Animal Shelter, Southern Cross Animal Rescue, Hub City Humane Society, Happy Healthy Pets and North Mississippi Great Dane Rescue will be there this weekend with both cats and dogs up for adoption.

In addition to the "Be My Valentine" event, Southern Pines is also hosting a reduced adoption event at their shelter on North 31st Avenue in Hattiesburg on Saturday and Sunday.

SPAS will have 30 cats and 15 dogs available for a $10 adoption. The shelter is open Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m.

"No matter where you go, you can hopefully find an animal that can be your sweetheart for Valentine's Day," said SPAS manager Ginny Sims.
