HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
A two-vehicle accident involving a Hattiesburg Police officer blocked traffic in downtown Hattiesburg Friday.
“The officer involved was responding to a call of a car-jacking and aggravated assault that occurred on Lincoln Road,” said Lt. Jon Traxler. “There was a report of the suspect being spotted on County Club Road, and that is where the officer was responding to,” said Traxler.
The police vehicle was traveling south on Main Street when it collided with another vehicle in the Front and Main Street intersection.
One person in the vehicle was transported from the scene by AAA Ambulance Service, and the officer was taken via a personal vehicle to a local hospital to be checked out for injuries.
When asked if the police cruiser was responding with lights and sirens, Traxler responded; “I don't know about running code with blue lights that is under investigation at this time.”
