Pittman's Jumper Lifts WCU past Mobile, 62-61

Hattiesburg, Miss. - Donta Pittman (JR/Waynesboro, Miss.)'s jumper with 1.2 seconds to play lifted William Carey University past the University of Mobile, 62-61 in SSAC action before a raucous crowd at Clinton Gym.

Each team traded runs to start the game as WCU opened the game with a  15-4 run but the Rams answered with a 18-6 run to take a 22-21 lead. The Crusaders retook the lead as Leo Garrett (JR/Brookhaven, Miss.) scored five straight points to put the Crusaders up six but Mobile rallied and trimmed the lead to 28-27.

The lead changed hands five times to start the half before WCU established control and opened a 59-50 lead with 4:38 to play. Carey then went cold and Mobile reeled off a11-1 run to take a 61-60 lead with 14 seconds to play.

On the final possession Carey inbounded the ball with 4.8 seconds and Pittman drove the lane and hit a floater in the lane for the game winner.

Leo Garrett led WCU with 17 points. Pittman added 14 points and Reshad Bickham (SR/Jackson, Miss.) finished 10 points.

The Crusaders are back in action on Saturday as they host Blue Mountain College. Tip-off is set for 4:00 pm.
