LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

The United Way of the Pinebelt Region held its annual report luncheon on Thursday at South Central Place in Laurel.

The event is held each year to thank all those volunteers and organizations that participated in the past year's fund raising program. They have raised to date, over $624,000 which is 96 percent of their goal.

These funds are generated through local employee and corporate donations. The Pacesetter kicks off in August of each year and the normal campaign begins in September and runs through February.

United Way helps indentify and build on community strengths and assets, helping individuals and groups with specific community interests find ways to contribute their time, talents and support direct-service programs.

United Way of the Pine belt Region is a non-profit organization that strives to make a positive impact on people's lives in South Mississippi. If anyone would like to participate in organizing their business in the employee United Way campaign efforts or just simply wish to donate time or money, they can contact United Way of the Pine belt Region Executive Director, Barbara Johnson at 601-428-8459.
