ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) -
An Ellisville resident was that was arrested Thursday and charged with felonious abuse of a vulnerable adult, made her initial appearance on Friday before Jones County Justice Court Judge David Lyons. According to the Jones County Sheriff's Department, licensed nurse Bobbie Adams, 30, was allegedly stealing from a hospice patient who was under her care.
Adams bond for the charge of felonious abuse of a vulnerable adult was set at $15,000 and bond for the charge of illegally obtaining a controlled substance was set at $10,000. Adams sat in the court room weeping as the judge read her the charges. According to her husband, Adams was working for a private care company out of Hattiesburg when the incident occurred.
“She was taking the medications that were prescribed for the victim and she was stealing those to use for her own benefit and/or selling them for her own benefit and then putting medication in place of that prescribed medication to try to keep from being detected by other family members,” said Sheriff Alex Hodge.
Since this case is under investigation, the sheriff's department is not releasing the name of the company Adams worked for. No details have been given on whether she took care of other hospice patients.
