The Southern Pines Animal Shelter has named their King and Queen of their Mardi Gras float.
In an online voting contest Willie the dog received 490-votes to be named King and Lacuna received 279-votes to be named Queen. During the week long fund raiser more than $1200 was raised for the shelter.
Saturday night from 8 p.m. to midnight T-Bones records will be the sight for Furpalooza. The event is being sponsored by the See Spot Run committee. Four musical acts are donating their time to help raise money for a dog park in the city of Hattiesburg. Appearing in no particular order are Wyatt Waters, Oh, Jeremiah, 9000 miles, and Rooster Blues.
Cover charge is $10. Prizes will be raffled off throughout the evening. Cost to purchase a raffle ticket is an additional $10.
The park will be built in the Oaks on the corner of West Pine Street and 4th Avenue.
"We have almost $100,000 committed at this time toward building the park," said Carey Varnado, See Spot Run committee member. " We need another $50,000 to really build a state of the art dog park. We think it would be great not only for the dogs, but also for people of Hattiesburg as well."
