Steve DeSalvo was in Laurel Thursday, speaking to community leaders at a Sertoma Club luncheon where he talked about all that's happened since the Braves moved to the Jackson area from Greenville, South Carolina. He reminded the group that spring training is almost here and how excited he is about this season, and also about promotions they are offering to individuals and groups that wish to travel to see them play this year.
“We have 70 home games every year, we do special promotions every night, in fact, Friday night fireworks is what we're know for and we're expanding that now to Saturday so we'll have fireworks every Friday and every Saturday and we're actually going to be doing a tailgating Saturday this year.” DeSalvo said, “We're trying to join in on the football craze down here and try to have people come out and actually tailgate for our Saturday home games and have a little bit of fun with that. Once Super Bowl Sunday is over with, in my opinion, even though basketball is still going on, that's when Baseball season starts.”
Three Braves players who were inducted into the Hall of Fame last year, are being honored with a triple bobble head representing Bobby Cox, Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux. They are also giving away free tee-shirts, ball caps and other items during special promotions at home games this season.
DeSalvo encouraged the group to bring their family along with them to the games and enjoy shopping and eating afterwards. The first game will be held April 9th in Jackson where they will be playing the Jackson Generals out of Jackson, Tennessee.
