Runners, walkers and friends of The Children's Center for Communication and Development at The University of Southern Mississippi will be “ready, set, go” on Saturday, Feb. 28 when The Children's Center Classic kicks off.
The 10K Run, 5K Run, and 1 mile Little Eagle Fun Run will support The Children's Center's life changing work with children from birth through age five who have disabilities. Those registering by Feb. 14 will be guaranteed a t-shirt. Race packets can be picked up starting at 7 a.m. and the run will begin at 8 a.m., starting at Pride Field on the Hattiesburg campus.
Included among the nearly 30 sponsors of the run is Mississippi Power, the Classic's “To the Top” sponsor. Michael Harvey, Pine Belt Division Manager for Mississippi Power, toured the Center and came away captivated by what he saw and heard. Harvey is the newest member of The Children's Center's advisory board.
“It didn't take long to see that the staff at The Children's Center are passionate about the work they're doing,” he said. “Mississippi Power has been a supporter of the Center for years and we're now happy for the opportunity to help make this run a huge success."
Official timing will be handled by Diva Timing of Sumrall. Post-race food for participants includes food from Half Shell Oyster House, Smoothie King, Corner Market, Whole Foods Market and others. Music will be by local musical talent, "Wes J and the Shifters," featuring Wes Johnson, Joel Ingram and Lanna Wakeland.
